Hypocrisy and Contempt for the Voter

A few days ago, the NCDC sent out the post copied below.  Read it carefully.  Its hypocrisy and contradiction is actually mind boggling and shows their contempt for the parents and voters of the school district.  Today they and their surrogates are falsely trying to link candidates to Rob Asterino.  Huh?  Politics much?  If I did not know better, they sound Trumpian in their panic. They showed the same disregard and contempt for the voters during the debate over form based code.  The voters saw through the rhetoric.

Let's start with the first line.  "While we believe our school board elections should remain non partisan..." Here comes the "but", the part where regardless of what we say, it does not apply to us. The sentence goes on to say, "[T]here are important principles that we, as Democrats, believe should be elevated as this week's coming election draws near..."  Talking out of both sides of their mouth in the SAME sentence.  To them, this is all about politics.  This is all about their outside agenda and has nothing to do with education.  Shouldn't that say "values", not democratic values?  They are displaying their contempt for the parents and the voter. Plain and simple.

Read the entire post.  Nothing about public school education and teaching and learning subjects such as math, English, foreign language, social studies, the fine arts, etc.  Just a throwaway line about social and emotional learning.  They go on to talk about masks and Covid-19 mitigation strategies.  That has nothing to do with education.  If anything, the mask mandates for younger students has caused learning issues and has caused issues with social and emotional learning, the very thing they said we need to prioritize over hard academics.  The district should follow state and federal mandates with regard to Covid strategies. We created the problem and now we need to fix it, it seems to say.  How about not creating the problem in the first place?

Then, today, the NCDC surrogates are out in force trying to tie candidates to Rob Asterino.  What?  Show me one place where any candidate even mentions Rob Asterino.  He is a former County Exec who really has no business butting into local school board elections. The NCDC is trying to make this all about politics.  That is exactly what they have to do because their candidates fail on addressing the issues with specifics and with ideas.

Everything they do is partisan and disregards the students.  Even look at the link they posted to the LWV forum.  Instead of linking directly to the forum, they put a tracking link in between them and the direct link.  More politics.  Harvesting data.  Meh.

Watch that video.  Who said that the teachers are the most important asset of the district? Hint:me.  Who said class size matters? Hint:me and Dana.  Who advocated for metrics so we can understand the DEI initiative and improve it if necessary? Hint:me and Dana.  Who supports the district following state and federal covid mandates? Hint: Me and Dana

With apologies to Aaron Sorkin and the movie The American President, (I paraphrase from memory here) "How do you win elections?  You tell people they have a problem, you remind them of earlier times when things were better, and you point your finger of blame at the other guy."  Rather than say anything positive or of substance about their candidates, they play the dirty politics game of putting down and falsely attacking their opponents.

This election is about character.  Reputation is who you are when people are looking.  Character is about who you are when no one is looking.  I have no children still in the district.  They graduated.  I have no outside agenda.  My only agenda is to advocate for the students, ALL of the students.  To advocate for those without a voice.  To advocate for giving parents a voice.  To use my common sense to address problems.

Instead of addressing the issues such as teaching and learning, the budget, class size, they are avoiding the issues and pointing to their politics.  That is hypocrisy and contempt for you, the voter.

Do you want to elect people who bring an outside agenda and outside politics into the district or elect those of us who have no agenda other than maintaining academic excellence within fiscally responsible budgets?

Vote for Jeffrey Mester.  Common Sense with an Uncommon Commitment.

An open letter from your neighbors, the Democratic Party District Leaders who make up the New Castle Democratic Committee. While we believe our school board elections should remain non partisan, there are important principles that we, as Democrats, believe should be elevated as this coming week’s elections draw near. For many of us the Chappaqua School System was one of the primary reasons we moved to this town. We applaud the educators and staff members who work tirelessly to educate our children and we know that continuous change and improvements must be made to support them and our children. Now, more than ever, it’s important to vote in every election. Extremists are seeking to inject their viewpoints at all levels, including the school system throughout the country. We want the Chappaqua Schools to continue to do two vital things: educate and, in doing so, always remember that our children’s physical and mental welfare must be protected. As you weigh your vote, we ask you to consider the candidates’ positions on: ●Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Do candidates believe that using anti-bias and anti-bullying educational curricula can be a powerful tool to creating greater inclusivity in our community? ● Curriculum: Do candidates support elevating educational standards while maintaining a focus on social and emotional learning? What roles, if any, do they believe parents should formally have in shaping lesson plans, choosing textbooks and library books in our schools? ● COVID-19 Risk Mitigation: Do candidates believe in creating policies based on scientific metrics, deferring to state and federal governance, or do they reject mitigation strategies like masking entirely? Thank you for taking your time to think about these important issues and how it affects our community.

School board elections are tomorrow, Tuesday, May 17th. All voting takes place at Horace Greeley HS Gym from 7am-9pm. Turnout is usually quite low, something we think it’s important to change. Please vote! The New Castle Democratic Committee
